Pupillary distance (PD) is the distance (measured in millimeters) between the centers of the pupils in each eye. This measurement is used when preparing to make prescription glasses to ensure the important part of the lenses match up to where you actually see!
Step 1: Find a metric ruler so that you can measure your pupillary distance in millimeters. Hold the ruler just over your child’s eyes keeping the ruler exactly horizontal and line up the ruler’s (0) measurement with your child’s right eye pupil (as shown below).
Step 2: While keeping your ruler as still as possible, read the millimeter line that lines up with the center of your child’s left pupil. This number is your child’s PD measurement.
Step 3: Repeat the above steps a couple times to ensure you get the same measurement to ensure the most accurate prescription for your child.
Step 4: Write the PD number on your prescription and upload the picture at checkout or email the PD number with your order number to us at hello@paireyewear.com with the subject line Pupillary Distance.
